Dijkstra’s vulnerable way of interacting with her
subjects.
The wall includes an “interactive element” where a
mini webcam is placed behind the dot in the “å” of
Tillstånd av varande which takes pictures of visitors
every 360 frames.
The webcam is ontrolled with code using p5.js.
the exhibition uses typography and color with minimaldistraction to focus on the artist’s work, just as her portraits have minimal distraction in order to focus in on her subjects.
I viewed one of Rineke’s exhibitions at the Berlinische Galerie in Berlin back in the Winter of ‘25 and something about her work totally captivated me and I didn’t know what it was because I just thought they were well taken photographs. After researching her for this project, I realized that there was much more to her imagery than meets the eye which made me love her even more. This project also pushed me to work more minimally which is not my usual style but it was a great learning experience.
